Dear MR.MCGREGOR

  1. People use ‘Banter’ as an excuse to be hurtful.
  2. People should mean it when they say sorry – they are not being kind or responsible.
  3. What would you like to be done about this? Have quite harsh sanctions?
  4. It should not be said because of them people who got hurt bye ofther people.

Dear MR.MCGREGOR

I’m writing to you because of ‘banta!’ It is a joke to some people but for other people it is used as an excuse to deny that bullying has happened. Other people mean it as a joke because apparently they’re too old for “sorry”, so they say banta just to get away with it so they can’t get into trouble! banta doesn’t only take place in the playground, it also takes place during lesson which can disrupt students and members of staff. This causes the behaviour of the students during the school day to be more aggressive and disruptive. It is more than likely that students will act like this because their feelings are hurt. Sanctions need to be put into place for this horrible behaviour to stop!

Others do not see this behaviour as a joke! Even though people find it funny, the people who are being affected by this are getting extremely hurt. The word banta is basically an excuse so they think the other people think it’s all right, but it’s not! People use banta to be spiteful to others which doesn’t make anything they do right. These bullies do not realise how hurt people are getting and they need to be stopped as soon as possible!

I’m thinking that if they say  they should get a detention for 30 minutes or more but it’s the teachers decisions. I think you should do this because it will give them more discipline and will make them see that it is wrong to do it.

I think racism is linked with banta because it hurts people and their families. People comment on their skin colour which is causing their families/parents pain. It’s not good or brilliant it’s just rude and mean. That’s a problem, people think that’s nice and think it’s cool but it’s not. It’s just plain rude. I think that you should do an assembly about racism and banta. I personally think it would be helpful.

We need to improve our behaviour across the school.

I have come to you today to address a huge problem throughout the school which a cause to you as banta and about “Racism”so you shouldn’t be racist or say the word BANTA owerwise you will make it worse for you.

I hope you take this into consideration.

Yours sincerly,

Nathan Bray.

  1. Nathan,

I’m really pleased with the effort here. There are some parts where it’s entirely clear why the use of banter upsets you and poses a problem to the school.

    Targets
    1) Please learn the difference between Joel and joke
    2) try this approach to help your work – edit this document and separate each piece of information on a new line. After this, insert full stops and then put your letter back together.
    3) How will each paragraph begin and end – see me if you need help with this.

  2. Nathan,

I am very impressed. What a huge improvement in such a short time. Blogging suits you

  7. Hello Nathan,

I’m proud with how far you have come with this. Before you achieve the badge, you must remove the majority of your exclamation marks. You should replace most of the with full stops.

    Thanks,

    Mr North

  8. You can always see me after school on a Tuesday or at lunch times.

  10. Nathan – Can you change the spelling of Mr McGregor?

Please have another go at removing those exclamation marks.
